In our busy lives, it can be easy to overlook those who quietly make a big difference. This post is a heartfelt thank you to Eric and the many generous individuals and organisations that helped create a fantastic BBQ area, turning a simple idea into a shared community space.

Eric dedicated his free time and skills to this project. His contributions, paired with support from local supporters, transformed an ordinary vision into an inviting outdoor haven for friends and family to gather and enjoy delicious meals together.

The Vision of the BBQ Area

The dream for an outdoor BBQ area started as a simple idea—a spot where volunteers could come together for barbecues. However, dreams require more than just enthusiasm; they need action and commitment.

Eric’s Contribution

Eric rose to the occasion, stepping in to tackle the brickwork needed to construct the BBQ area. His willingness to share his skills truly exemplifies the spirit of community.

His hard work made the space not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. For example, Eric meticulously laid over 500 bricks, showcasing his craftsmanship. His dedication, even amidst a busy personal schedule, serves as a powerful reminder of how impactful our efforts can be when we help one another.

Material Donations

The success of the BBQ area would not have been possible without the generous donations from local businesses and residents.

For instance, the bricks we used were seconds, generously donated, providing both a rustic charm and a sustainable way to build. These contributions significantly lowered our costs and demonstrated the power of community collaboration. Each laid brick became a testament to collective effort, highlighting how local resources can elevate shared projects.

Additionally, we repurposed an old oil drum from Oaktree Garage in Peters Green for cooking. This not only showcased resourcefulness but also added a unique touch to the BBQ area. By recycling materials, we focused on sustainability while giving the space a fun and distinctive flair.

Community Support

We were fortunate to receive further support from community members, such as Angus, a local volunteer who "donated" paving slabs for the countertops.

Angus's generosity not only enhanced the area’s beauty but also emphasised how individual contributions can unite toward a common goal. Each paving slab that was skillfully placed represented a collective effort—a compelling reminder that when people share even a small amount of their time, the impact can be significant.

Creative Reuse

In addition to donations, we found creative ways to reuse items from our own collections, showcasing ingenuity throughout the project.

One notable item was an old sink discovered in a dusty shed. This previously forgotten piece was revived and repurposed for the BBQ area. Embracing resourcefulness like this can inspire others to look within their homes for treasures that can be brought back to life.

Moreover, a charming stone hedgehog found while exploring the woods gave the area a whimsical touch. Items like this can easily go unnoticed but add a spark of character to any project, creating an inviting environment.

The Final Touches

As we completed the final touches, the BBQ area truly came to life. Each contribution—time, materials, or ideas—was crucial in transforming an underutilised space into a focal point for community enjoyment.

It is remarkable to see how projects like this can rejuvenate neglected areas and turn them into vibrant spots for gathering. Our deep gratitude for everyone’s efforts cannot be overstated; their impact illuminates the space we now cherish.

A Heartfelt Thank You

This blog post is a sincere thank you to Eric and all the kind supporters who contributed to the BBQ area.

The influence of their efforts extends beyond the project itself; it fosters a stronger sense of community and interconnectedness.

Acknowledging those who extend a helping hand is vital to strengthening our communities and spreading goodwill. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Eric, Oaktree Garage, Angus, and all others who made this BBQ area possible.
