This is our brand new Hedgehog Educational and Awareness Shelter at Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary.
Very kindly made possible through a grant from The Harpenden Trust will be used to help educate the next generation on how they can help our Wild Hedgehogs.
We hold educational and awareness visits for local Scouts and Girlguiding groups with both talks and practical exercises on how they can help the hedgehogs. This shelter will allow the children to stay dry out of the weather when we host these talks.
We would like to thank The Harpenden Trust for this amazing shelter which would not have been possible without their support. A special thanks to Emma Deutrom from the Harpenden Trust :)
We have been holding educational and awareness talks for thousands of local children since we started the Charity. One of the most important ways to help our hedgehogs is to spread awareness and to engage the next generation and giving them an insight on how they can help the hedgehogs. These talks are an invaluable way for us to achieve this and have been very successful with lots of local children's groups getting directly involved in helping the hedgehogs.
A big thank you to Kevin from RS Interiors (rsinteriors21@gmail.com) for constructing the Shelter and Ben from (http://gnomeandgarden.co.uk) for the wood chippings :)
Here is a short video of the shelter in construction:

Steve Pryor, Chairman of the Harpenden Trust Community Fund, said, “A prickly challenge for the Trust’s Community Fund. We were pleased to support the important environmental work undertaken by the Sanctuary, for the valuable insight it provides to the Harpenden community and of the protection it provides for this well-known but sadly vulnerable creature that helps in our gardens and woodlands.”
