We had the pleasure of meeting Alex Mayer MEP on the 26th April at Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary. Alex was very interested in how she could help the hedgehogs and keen to know more about making gardens hedgehog friendly.
There are a few simple steps you can do right now to help hedgehogs and make your garden friendly.
- Plant fruit trees
- Leave piles of sticks and wood
- Pile up leaves
- Make a small 13cm x 13cm hole in your fence
- Plant wildflowers
- Make sure there are no traps like open drains or materials such as plastic that can trap or strangle a hedgehog
Alex also posted some of these steps on Twitter ( https://twitter.com/alexlmayer/status/1121776997645148160 ).
Alex had a brief tour of the sanctuary and got to meet some of the hedgehogs we are currently caring for and rehabilitating. We had a lovely talk about hedgehogs and the troubles they are facing.
