EDUCATIONAL & AWARENESS VISIT BOOKINGS

We are not open to the public, but you can book an educational and awareness group visit to Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary or we can come to you at your school, organised group, conference, or event. Ideal for groups such as the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Brownies, Rainbows, Girlguiding, etc...

Please read the IMPORTANT visit notes towards the bottom of this page!

Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary is extensively active in promoting ways people can help hedgehogs and spreading awareness of the troubles wild hedgehogs face. The Charity hosts nearly 100 Hedgehog Educational and Awareness talks annually. As of 2024, over 10k children and adults have attended these talks.

External/remote visit talks typically include local schools, community groups, other wildlife trusts and groups, along with corporate functions.

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR VISITS

  • We do not accept birthday parties; these are educational visits.

  • The sanctuary will be closed for visits from November through March. However, we can still visit you during this period.

  • The educational and awareness visits are geared to children of ages between 6 and 14 years.

  • All visits to Hornbeam Wood Hedgehog Sanctuary require adults to attend. For groups it's normally 1 adult to every 5-7 children.

  • Please read the description in the visit summary by clicking on the image.  There are more details about the visit and important information.

  • Visits can be booked Monday to Friday 10am-8:30pm. It may also be possible to make a booking for a Saturday or Sunday but you would have to contact us beforehand as these days cannot be booked online.

  • Visits to the sanctuary ideally need to be booked while there is still daylight as most of the visit will be conducted outside.  If this is not possible, then everyone attending will need to bring a torch with them. Please visit greenwichmeantime.com for seasonal sunset times.

  • If there is high winds or heavy rain on the day then the visit might have to be rescheduled.

"Everything amazing 😉 fantastic place for an educational visit . I took my service users to see Martin and the hedgehogs. My service users loved every minute of the experience , Martin was brilliant with them and answered all the questions thrown at him and trust me there were lots and just seeing the look on my service users faces when they were shown where the hedgehogs live and their habitat was just brilliant . I will definitely be going back in the near future with our little group (Hands on day centre) HODC. Thank you Martin and the hogs you certainly gave our little group lots to talk about and the respect they have for wildlife is amazing 😉 thank you 🙏 see you all when this is all over and stay safe and massive hugs 🤗 to the hogs. X Mo xx. 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️keep up your good work. X"
